
Plain-bellied Water Snake (Nerodia erythrogaster) is a medium-sized (up to 1.2 m total length) snake that is distributed across the southeastern U.S. New Mexico, where it is critically imperiled, represents the westernmost edge of its range. It can be found in a variety of aquatic and wetland habitats but will wander far from water, especially during warm, wet weather.
