Organ Mountains Colorado Chipmunk (Tamias quadrivittatus australis) is an approximately 20 cm (total length) subspecies of Colorado chipmunk that is only found in the Organ Mountains of New Mexico. They inhabit the north-facing slopes of the mountains at elevations of about 1,800-2,200 m in ponderosa pine habitats and nearby oak and juniper habitat. This subspecies has a longer reproductive period than most chipmunks, peaking in late winter/early spring and again in July-September during the summer monsoons.
