Colorado Pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus lucius) is the largest native North American minnow (up to 1.83 m) and is currently distributed in the upper Colorado River basin in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. In New Mexico they are found in the San Juan River. As adults they inhabit cloudy, deep, strong flowing rivers, while juveniles inhabit shallow backwaters. They spawn in late summer, when water temperatures are over 18°C and water flow is decreased.
