White Sands Pupfish (Cyprinodon tularosa) are small (5 cm) fish that only occur in a 15 x 60 km area in the Tularosa Basin in south-central New Mexico. They inhabit shallow, calm pools and runs and can tolerate a wide range of temperature and salinity. These pupfish feed primarily on mosquito larvae but also eat other invertebrates and algae and sometimes practice cannibalism.
