Beavertail Fairy Shrimp (Thamnocephalus platyurus) is a large freshwater branchiopod that is widely distributed west of the Mississippi River in the U.S. In New Mexico they are found in the Rio Grande and Pecos river basins. They inhabit alkaline, cloudy, warm water in temporary pools and playas in arid and semi-arid regions.
