Southern Plains Crayfish (Procambarus simulans) is a freshwater crayfish that is distributed through the southwestern U.S. In New Mexico they are found in the Canadian River Drainage and in the Pecos Drainage as far south as Roswell. They inhabit temporary pools and rapidly flowing creeks and rivers. On land they create burrows that are within easy reach of the water table.
