McCown's Longspur (Rhynchophanes mccownii) is a small (14-16 cm), sparrow-like songbird that is found in central North America, from southern Alberta and Saskatchewan and as a migrant or wintering species south to northern Mexico. It prefers habitat that has sparse, short grass or bare ground. They often nest in scrapes on the ground. Nest predation is a big mortality factor for this species.
