Lucifer Hummingbird (Calothorax lucifer) is a small (9 cm) hummingbird with a purple iridescent throat (males). Their primary range is in Mexico, but during breeding season they extend slightly into western Texas, southwestern New Mexico, and southeastern Arizona. They are found mostly in the Chihuahuan desert foothills, where they eat nectar from agaves, penstemon, cholla, and other plants.
