Chestnut-collared Longspur (Calcarius ornatus) is a small (13-17 cm), sparrow-like bird. They breed in southern Manitoba and Alberta and the adjoining northern states and winter in Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Mexico. They are associated with open grassland habitats and breed in native shortgrass prairies. Wintering habitats are closely associated with shortgrass prairies and other open habitats, including sites that have recently been grazed or burned.
